TRIP TIPS

What should I bring?

Sun Block - The Keys are located at lower latitudes. That gives the sun a better "shot" at you. Apply sun block before you leave for your day of fishing and at regular intervals. Nothing will ruin a trip faster than a bad sunburn.

Polarized Sunglasses - Very Important: Polarized sunglasses are a necessity for flats fishing. Not only do they protect your eyes; they cut the glare so you can see the fish. Flats fishing is sight fishing. If you can't see them, you can't catch them.

A Hat - Pick a hat that is comfortable. The hat should have a bill or brim long enough to shade you as well as keep the sun out of your eyes. The underside of the bill should be a dark color; I like green, to make it easier to see.

Practice Your Casting - You don't have to be a master angler to catch fish in Islamorada. All skill levels, including first timers, are welcome. That being said, the better your casting skills, the better your chances when the fish are in front of you. Practice your casting before your trip. Casting instruction is available on request.
